Instructions for installing Sight-Glass and Valves onto Tank

The ball valves are straight forward – always use thread tape, on all threaded fittings.
Always put the sight glass in first (D1; 5 tonne tank only) before the 50mm ball valve, as you cannot wind the Hansen male elbow bend (25mm) with the valve blocking it.
 
This is not a problem with the D3 (20 tonne), D5 (30 tonne) and D6 (40 tonne); as the Hansen male elbow bend (25mm) will wind into the 50 x 25 reducing bung, then that winds into the selected sight for the sight-glass into the 50mm tank outlet.

Put the short piece of 25mm hose tubing (200mm aprox) onto one end of the Hansen elbow bend (25mm).  To do this properly, make sure the coupling is wound all the way back, moisten the inside of the tubing then wind the tubing clockwise into the Hansen bend, just using your hand the tubing will be rotated down inside the coupling nut, then wind the coupling nut up as per normal.  Keep one hand (tight) on the tubing as you tighten the coupling nut with vice grips or adjustable pliers, the tubing mustn’t slip, use jerking motion with the vice grips in order to stop slipping.  If you can’t get it any tighter without slipping then this is tight enough. Do the same with the long piece of tubing, into the other end of the bend.

Put the uni-seal into the 44mm hole that has been drilled into the top of the tank at the sight-glass position. You will need a hammer to do this as it is a tight fit.
 
Moisten the short piece of 25mm tubing (use saliva), then work it into the uni-seal hole.  It is hard to get in, but once in it will slide in easily then push it right into the coupling nut of the Hansen bend.  When dry the tubing is very difficult to remove (however if you want extra security put a couple of cable ties onto the coupling nut of the Hansen bend, then through the louvered vent above it).

Hold the sight-glass tube tight against the tank, and mark it where it will fit inside the coupling nut of the bottom Hansen bend, cut it here with a hack saw or very sharp knife.  Before you wind it onto the Hansen bend, rotate the tubing anti-clockwise a couple of turns – then moisten the inside and wind it hard down onto the Hansen bend, then wind up the coupling nut same as above – no slipping.
